I'm (not)stuck in the future.

So for the past two days I’ve been stuck in the future. This all started simply enough:

Last Monday, G3 and I kept thinking it was Wednesday/tomorrow. G1 on the other hand was set on the fact that tomorrow was Thursday. A little known revelation- it was in fact just Monday, despite our beliefs to the contrary. By Tuesday, all of the lost time and confusion had been settled. When Thursday did actually become Thursday, G3 asked repeatedly over the course of conversation what day is it? As an upstanding member of the G-Force, G1 informed her that it was, in actuality, Thursday, despite G3’s absentminded references to yesterday as Monday and tomorrow as *Saturday.

Usually I’m the only Gmember who has issues with losing time, but neither G1 nor I believed that this was a case of lost time. To shorten a really long explanation on quantumness that I’m not even sure I truly understand (G1 is the Stargate Expert), we came to the conclusion that G1 was temporally shifted to the future.

It made sense. ish. And because it made so much sense, the G-Force gleefully accepted ’stuck in the future’ to explain temporal confusion, and we generally blamed the lapse in time across dimensions on the Universe.

I really should know better than to poke fun of The Powers That Be, especially when they’re in league with the Universe.

I think the confusion started when I changed my ringtone to the sound of the TARDIS in flight. The ringtone just happens to be exactly the same sound my police box USB hub-port makes when I plug in a new device or press a button on the side. Hn; what a strange and random happenstance.

Two days ago, I took a nap. I woke up in the future. My phone rang, confusing me as all get out because the light on the top of my police box was not flashing, and my sleep addled brain could not remember my phone. In my half conscious state, I tossed myself into my computer chair with a flat-line of brainwaves. The jostle from the fall coincidentally moved my curser over the timestamp on my PC. I’ve got my computer set up to pop-up with the date upon rollover. Friday, November 14, 2008.

What? I freaking thought this was the day after elections. The most outstanding recollection I could come up with was that I remember forcibly sitting down, in front of the TV, and watching McCain’s parting words. I remembered waiting annoyed at the media commentary for Obama’s acceptance speech. Then I remembered the odd, because it was short and stilted, conversation I had with my boss this morning. Hn. No wonder we had such an awkward conversation, I hadn’t spoken to her in over two weeks, and all’s I had to say was “I’m good.”

No- No way. I checked the calendar, and sure enough, Friday, November 14, 2008. I got up and checked the calendar in the kitchen. This didn’t tell me much because a few days had random marks that could have been a cross off. I got back on my computer and checked the Google Date/Time application on my homepage. Sure enough, it said Friday, November 14, 2008. This was so much weirder then reading about it in John Dies at the End.

Then, because I’m sure I’m not that freaking out of it, I remember my phone. Where is it? The phone tells me that I’m not crazy, and the date is not Friday, but Wednesday. I went about re-syncing my PC time clock.

Even after being reset, I turned on my computer this morning to find that today was Sunday, November 16, 2008. As I type this, even my Word Auto-Fill thinks this is so. I went back to my Google app just to check again, and I was shocked to see that for an instant (no longer than 4 seconds), it was actually Friday, November 30. I’m not sure what year it was, because I don’t think the 30th falls on a Friday this year. -_-

So, I am stuck in the future. Everything is getting saved to the future. Hn. I guess Detective Crews was right. We are not here. We are only more likely to be here then to not be here.

So, even as you read this, know: I am not here. I’m only more likely to be here, even if I am in the future.

*I’m not sure when the other days went.

♪ Lately I’ve been going crazy 1 2 3 4 5 10 switch; Crazy going been I’ve lately 5 4 3 2 1 10 switch. ♪

Everyone gets to a point where they think they’re going crazy. I continuously think I’ve passed that point long long ago, but then I reevaluate my crazy levels with those around me, and I’m not too shabby. To demonstrate, I’ll give a quick overview of thought process.

Most everyone is familiar with the process of ‘from Point A to Point B.’ Even those who do not follow this process understand that the idea behind A→B is that this is the quickest way to make a logical move. This is a step ladder process. In order to follow the thought process, everything needs to be in sequential order. Occasionally, someone will jump from point A→D. Everyone involved understands that the topic has remained the same, and most people can reason out how A made it to D. But problems start when someone goes from A→Q. Everyone understands that this is still the same topic, but no one gets what Q has to do with anything.

Another process I’ve seen is the building block concept. A foundation is laid, and each layer added to the argument gets more focused, eventually leading up to a point. Each layer is needed; otherwise the argument crumbles.

Then there’s the pie idea- each bit of logic is like a piece of pie, and every piece is needed to make a whole. Too much or too little and the pie doesn’t look to appetizing.

No matter what the tiny increments are, be they rungs in a ladder, bricks to a building or pieces of pie, all of these little details are needed to make a whole argument. The process comes with the way each bit of detail is strung together, stacked up, or added to make an argument successful.

When asked, I had a friend who said she thought like a computer- each new thought had its own file, in its own folder with its own tags. To make an argument, she would start in one place and lead us to her point, much like following a file path. This is the A→B process.

Another friend of mine said she thought like a post office. All her information came in one huge pile which she had to sort through or toss. Her form of argument was to take a big mess of information, group it by location, sort it out, and then pay attention to the bits of information that were important to that argument. This is the Building block idea- She starts with a lot of material, and steadily works it down to a specific point.

I think like cotton candy. Everything swirls around in a pink cloud of sugary confection, either getting rock hard with time or melting away in an instant. Every tiny fiber of blown sugar crosses and meshes, so that at any given time, my thoughts also cross and mesh. It all makes sense to me- everything is connected. I think of many things at once, impressions of thoughts that have no solid form. The best way to classify my thought process would be from megapixel to masterpiece. I understand that every littlest minute detail involved is needed to eventually form a big picture. This falls in with the pie idea- even if I do have a tendency to break things down a little too far.

That being said, I’ve been running against thought process that “Does Not Compute.” Is it any wonder that I’m feeling a bit crazy?

From Point A → Point Fish. The first reaction I had to this process was Fish? Huh? But the one making the argument tries to swim with it- and continues on in their own way. Along with this example is the point A to point Boot. Yes, I’m still just as equally confused as I was with the fish, but in this case the argument is dead in the water either way, so Boot it is. I’m fairly sure this is where the adage about the price of tea in China came from.

The other process that I’ve been having difficulty following is the word-association process. I’ve dubbed this thusly due to its complete lack of logic that I can comprehend. As far as I’ve been able to puzzle out, people who use the word-association process are just as equally confused as the rest of us: They hear a word, associate it with another word then attempt one of the processes mentioned above. The best way to demonstrate this would be to give examples:

The conversation is about being woken up by the lawn men cutting the grass. The response from the word-association process is, ‘what does recycling have to do with the guys mowing at 7am?’

The best I can guess is that ‘grass’ is associated with green→ recycling. Or, another example:

I bought a book on cupcakes because I like to bake. Response: “You don’t want to work at Kroger.”

What? Bake is associated with The Bakery, a part of Kroger. OR, maybe Bake is associated with food in Kroger? I dunno how the leap was made.

I thought something was wrong with me, but after a bit of evaluation, I’ve found that I’m good. It’s everyone else around me that have problems.

CHARACTER CHART swipped from :iconcharpal:

Date this chart was completed: 07102007

Character's Full Name: The End of Chitteline Inn

Reason or meaning of name: the Inn is located just past the border of Chitteline. It's the last rest before Thosewoods Forrest. and it happens to be on the only known road through Thosewoods.

Nickname: Casahause

Reason: That's what Raen has always called it.

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE:

Age: Unknown

How old does s/he(it) appear?: it's not truly easy to guess because the Inn has been kept up, and it has extremely advanced building techniques. Maybe, if I had to guess, around 70 years old.

Hair Color: Sharp sloping thatched roof-Mostly grey, but Raen planted daffodils on it one year as a joke, and they've grown back every year since.

Eye Color: null

Glasses or contacts: 5 windows, with heavy duty shutters that can be propped up from the bottom

Weight: Usually there's no wait for the Inn, it may look like a three bedroom hut, but its so much more than that.

Height: A Raen and a half on the outsides, sloping up to 'taller than me and a footstool' to the center. So about 6 feet steeply sloped up to 18 feet at the highest.

Type of body/build: Solid wood frame with naked beams. Square with an extra room off to the side.

Skin type: outer-layer is mortared stone. Next is an insulating layer of hay, sod and sticks, all held in by the innermost-layer: a mortar, hay cement mixture covered in a coat of lie to make the walls white.

Shape of face: hexagonal (I think I need to draw a picture of this...)

Distinguishing Marks: There is a sign out by the road, and some child's drawings along the side of the Inn near the door.

Predominant feature: Hope. Its not what the Inn looks like, but what it represents.

Looks like: An old, run-down three bedroom hut with loft.

Is s/he(it) healthy?: I wouldn't know otherwise.

-If not, why not: see above.

FAVORITES:

Character's favorite color: The Inn seems to like blue. It's not a natural color, and it can't be found anywhere in the region.

Music: anything that doesn't suck. Music is hard to come by out in the middle of never-where. Needless to say, anyone with musical ability is appreciated.

Food: I have no idea what houses eat.

Literature: big fan. Not sure where Casahause learned how to read, but it does think and pick up information any way it can.

Expressions: Casahause Rules

Expletives: flair of the fire.

HABITS:

Smokes: yes.

-What? mostly the local wood in the area.

-When and how much? Constantly. It loves cooking and winter months.

Drinks: not usually

Hobbies: bothering/pestering others. Switching rooms around and redecorating.

BACKGROUND:

Hometown: null

Type of childhood: Unknown

First memory: Unknown, but Raen's first memory of Casahause had her running away from such a strange structure.

Most important childhood event that still affects him/her: Raen moving in permanently.

-Why?: She still lives there.

Education: very good

Religion: Multif...basically ancient religion that isn't practiced seriously anymore but everyone has heard of it. (think drewid)

Finances: Never had any problems. It decieded it liked Raen's offhanded mention of becoming an Inn and posted rules. With the rush for shelter in Beyond, business has been good.

FAMILY:

Mother: none

Relationship with her: -

Father: Unknown

Relationship with him: None

Siblings: No

-How many?:0

Birth order: -

Relationship with each: -

Children of siblings (neices/nephews?): None.

(these weren't on here because?)

Married/significant other: No

Relationship type: -

Children: Raen

Relationship: offers shelter and guidence

ATTITUDE:

Most at ease when: Raen is at ease, and Pandora is around

Ill at ease when: Raen is upset/hurt and Pandora is gone

Priorities: Protect its secrets, act as shelter, Raen's welfare

Philosophy: You can't control every situation, but you can give it a push in your favor.

How s/he feels about self: Proud. This Casahause preens.

Past failure s/he would be embarrassed to have people know about: the period of time right before Raen, when it didn't keep itself up.

-Why?: It went against the purpose of the house. If it falls apart, then its secrets die with the house.

If granted one wish, what would it be?: further reach

-Why?: It's stuck in one spot.

PERSONALITY:

Greatest source of strength in character's personality (whether s/he sees it as such or not): A crowd, lets the inn show off, but also keeps it 'in shape'

Greatest source of weakness in character's personality (whether s/he sees it as such or not): Lack of empathy. It doesn't understand many things about living creatures.

Character's soft spot: Raen.

-Is this soft spot obvious to others?: Yes.

Biggest vulnerability: Opening its doors to strangers.

TRAITS:

Optimist or pessimist: Practicalist

-Why?: because it only looks at the now, Casahause has no real feel for time, so it cant really have any feelings for future or past events. That's changing with the growth of Raen.

Introvert or extrovert: Extrovert.

-Why?: How am I supposed to answer this? You either are or you aren't. Now if the question read 'in what ways?' then I'd say Casahause likes to show off.

Drives and motivations: It really only has one purpose, but that's been forgotten to time. So now it acts as a house/Inn, which in fact does motivate it for its purpose, whatever that may be.

Talents: Alternate demention swapping. On the outside it looks like a hut, but it can fit as many people as it feels like fitting. And it puts them anywhere it wants to for a night.

Extremely unskilled at: dancing. It's tried, and it wasn't pretty.

Good characteristics: Its got a great since of humor

Character flaws: inability to think ahead.

Mannerisms: decorations are constantly changing. So are room locations. Most of the time its subtle, and Raen thinks this is normal--like the trees changing for the seasons. Casahause loves to tease, so often it tries to trip, bump bottoms, and rattle anyone who stays. But it appreciates beauty. It does nice things like clean clothes and leave flowers strewn about~ but that's mostly for the Inn, and not for the people staying there.

Peculiarities: Sometimes things just appear, not like changing the drapes, but like all of the sudden one day there was a water-trough for a barn. The inn didn't have a barn, but the customers to witness this decided to stay and help build one because the inn ordained it so. And Casahause has no say in what or where animals go in the barn, but it can fill up the water-trough anytime it wants to.

Biggest regret: Doesn't have any

Minor regrets: same

Biggest accomplishment: Raising Raen

Minor accomplishments: annoying the hell out of Pandora.

Character's darkest secret: Unknown, lost to time

Does anyone else know? Yes, someone built the house

-If yes, how did they find out? umm. yeah

SELF-PERCEPTION:

One word CHARACTER would use to describe self: supreme

One paragraph description of how CHARACTER would describe self: Casahause Rules: No Rough-hausing. You stay where Casahause puts you, complaints will be taken to the water-trough. This is an establishment of privilege. Its a privilege for you to stay here, best not to take that for granted. Treat all who stay with the respect that is given to you. Hurt the staff, and Casahause will eat you.

What does CHARACTER consider best physical characteristic?: its Doormat

What does CHARACTER consider worst physical characteristic?: the window shutters. its constantly trying to do something to make them look better.

Are these realistic assessments? If not, why not?: More or less. Its somewhat hard for me to judge at this point in time. But that door mat is pretty awesome.

How CHARACTER thinks others perceive him/her: Haunted and/or Enchanted/cursed

What four things would CHARACTER most like to change about self? (#1 most important, #2 second most important, etc.)

-1. Shutters

-2. color of the bricks in the main hall

-3. Area of influence

-4.

-Why?: because they are ugly and ungaingly.

If change #1 was made, would character be as happy as s/he thinks?: Probably, it is just a house. Small things make it happy.

INTERRELATIONS WITH OTHERS:

How does character relate to others?: Fairly well, if they can handle a little magic now and then.

How is s/he perceived by...Strangers?: they are either clueless or extremely weary.

... Friends?: Like a mischievous pet

... Wife/Husband/Lover?: ew. HAHAHAH!!! Mental picture of a doll house or dog house relation.

... Hero/Heroine?: Like a parent, best friend.

How does character view hero/heroine?: A treasured curiosity.

First impression: Of what? I’m confused.

-Why?: Because I don’t know where this question is coming from.

What happens to change this perception?: Now I’m getting peeved.

What do family/friends like most about character?: The stability and reliability of being there

What do family/friends like least about character?: Casahause's bad timing.

GOALS:

Immediate goals: Amuse its self

Long range goals: fulfil its purpose.

How does character plan to accomplish these goals? By protecting what it was meant to protect.

How will other characters be affected? When the Beyond is crossed, the road through Thosewoods Forrest becomes a highway of information and unseedy characters. The local lord claims The End of Chitteline Inn as part of his territory, when beings from the Beyond recognize its neutrality

PROBLEMS/CRISIS:

How character reacts in a crisis: it gets flustered and tries to do the same to its occupants.

How character faces problems: in a flourish of a production

Kinds of problems character usually runs into: A person more stubborn than Casahause

How character reacts to NEW problems: A flair of the fireplace, and watching others fix it to try and help.

How character reacts to change: It thrives on change.

GENERAL:

Favorite clothing: Socks. The Inn adores socks.

-Why?: I'm not quite sure.

Least favorite clothing: cloaks or jacket types

-Why? because when people take them off, they usually cover up a part of the house when they hang them.

Jewelry: a fun chandelier thingy

Other accessories: Plenty of furniture and accessories to go nuts over.

Drives: Nope, but it uses Pandora to run its errands. Sometimes it uses customers.

Where does character live?: In Thosewoods Forrest.

Where does character want to live? It doesn't have such complicated wants.

-Why?: Its a house.

What does s/he do too much of?: cook

Too little of?: pay attention to living things...one time it rearranged the rooms where on of the customers got stuck without a way out.

Most prized possession: A few drawings on the outside door frame

-Why?: No one knows.

UNCATAGORIZED:

Person character secretly admires: Jason, the being from Beyond

-Why? It sees Raen as a pet/responsibility, and has never been able to see her as anything beyond the child she once was. Jason is new, different and already mature.

Person character was most influenced by: the builders

-Why?: they gave the house a purpose

Most important person in character's life before story starts: Unknown

How does character spend the week before the story starts:? adjusting the length of the stairs and color coding the pantry doors.
